Rabbits (Part 1) ... There will be many parts :P
Rabbits are like eternal puppies, always small and cute. They are, however, kinda expensive.
Shocked?
Well then have a look at my expenditure on ONE rabbit (all costs in INR). The expenditure can be categorized into initial expenses, monthly maintenance costs and miscellaneous.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Initial expense- 250 (for the rabbit) + 1200 (for vaccines and spaying) + 250 (bowls, mats, etc.) = 1700
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Monthly maintenance cost (mostly food) - 40 (4 bundles of coriander) + 40 (2 kgs of cabbage) + 70 (around a kg of various grains and pulses) + 50 (other vegetables, bread, biscuits, occasional cheese, etc.) = 200
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Miscellaneous (hopefully not recurring!) -
1) Phone charger x 1- 450 (When it was disconnected, obviously.)
2) Laptop charger x 1- 650 (Yes, when disconnected! Stop asking me that! If it weren't... well, let's just say the list would end here)
3) Earphones x 2- 1000
4) Textbook x 3- 1500
5) 500 INR note x 1- 500
6) Clothes eaten- 1000
7) Stitches and tetanus shots (he fought with another rabbit)- 1000
8) Tetanus shots for me (he bit me)- 500
Total Miscellany- 6600
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
OK, just kidding, it didn't EAT all these items, just nibbled them till they were rendered sufficiently unusable. Now you may say that I am an irresponsible owner. However, I never use connect any edible appliances without first locking myself in bunny-free room.
In my belief, some of these attacks were committed out of pure hatred for me. For example, my textbooks and laptop charger were on my desk, a good four feet off the ground. In my absence from the room (a duration of maybe ten minutes), the rabbit jumps on my bed, then my chair and then hops onto my table.
Of all the many items on the table, he proceeds to chew my laptop charger wire (no, not the part that can be detached from the regulator box and replaced) and the textbooks that I needed to study from for an upcoming test.
My rabbit may express his hatred for me in numerous way but in the end he always runs to me for food, massages, permission to watch TV and for protection from vets and other dangerous animals.
